Me and my wife are thinking about getting pregnant but worried about the cost. I heard diapers are really expensive.
I found this site http://link.mavnt.com/cpa.php?50093.50535 that is offer $50 worth of free diapers but after that how much will I expect to spend a week on diapers and baby care?
Do I need to start saving?

Hi
yeah diapers are quite expensive!! If you want a green solution, may I suggest cloth diapers. It will be more expensive in the begining, but in the end you’ll avoid uge expenses. The cloth diapers I use are one-size, so I buy them once and they fit until she is potty-trained. It’s not much more work (I end up washing my baby’s clothes at the same time) and it doesn’t take much more time and they are pretty cute.
Having a baby is quite expensive. They grow out of their clothes quickly so they continualy need new outfits. And before you know it, baby will eat pablum … Also : does your wife intend on breastfeeding?
I suggest you make a budget to make sure you can afford it all… But in the end if you wait until you can afford a baby, you might just wait forever
It depends on what type of diapers you want to use, I use the most expensive because they work best for my son, so I spend about $25 every 2 weeks, so about $50 a month on diapers, but the cheapest brands are usually anywhere from 10-15 dollars a box, and a box should last you about 2 weeks. Childcare I have no idea about honestly because I’m a stay at home mom, but when deciding to have a baby you also have to think about other things, if your not breast feeding then formula runs about $12 a can, and that’s for the cheap stuff, my son goes through a can every 3 days, you would also need wipes, clothes, bottles and everything else you need to even get started with a baby… babies are very expensive, and if your worried financially then I would suggest going to the store and pricing everything first to make sure you can afford another person.
In NZ diapers (disposable nappies) are around 41 cents each – or 35 cents on special.
A newborn will use 10-12 each 24 hours and you will need around 2 years worth of nappies for your child.
Thats approx 70 nappies a week to start…….
Babies are expensive – not just nappies but they grow out of everything so quickly & they are time expensive & sleep expensive….
You need to think long and hard about whether you are ready for all the ‘costs’ involved with a baby.
Diapers are expensive if you make them expensive. I have a hard time coughing up $12 for 48 diapers (Pampers) so instead I spend about $11-$12 for 74 diapers for Luvs. I just prefer Luvs for some reason but the Walmart or Target brand work just as well. They just don’t have the fresh scent.
You should try and have a savings. We did, but it got used while I was on maternity leave lol. We have no more savings now. At first diapers will be more pricey because you’ll use them more, especially if breastfed (they poop about once per feeding the first couple weeks). We just bought the Walmart NB size Parent’s Choice $11 for 80 diapers. They lasted a tad longer than a week.
Otherwise you’ll stock up pretty well on diapers at the baby shower. We stocked up enough to last us through all of Size 1 which was nearly 3 months.
I would not stress out. Diapers are a little spendy, but really not that bad. They run about $12-$20 depending on the brand (that’s the large box). You will go through more when the baby’s first born, but it will decrease a little as they get older. Expect to buy diapers 2-3 times a month. I would take all the free diapers you can get though. We had enough to last us until our daughter was 3 months! It would be wise to save, but honestly, you will be able to incorporate it into your budget. It’s formula and other necessities that are more spendy. So, try and breast feed as long as possible and have lots of baby showers
Don’t let money hold you back on this decision. You’ll never think you have enough!
Diapers are not overly expensive if you go with the generic brands.
For a box of 180 diapers I am paying about $20 I think at Walmart(in Canada) and that box lasts my 6 month old roughly 2.5 weeks.
EDIT: You should start saving though…that is not the only expense of having a baby!
diapers are the least of the expenses. If you want to save some money you can get the cloth diapers. I did that for a while. big headache though.
check your local grocery store , price them and figure to change the baby 6-9 times a day.
luvs are the best. they’re nice and cushy like pampers and huggies and really do hold in leaks.. trust me. 2 years experience
they’re also a lot cheaper than pampers and huggies.. in georgia i’m getting a pack of 50ish size 5 diapers for $10
They aren’t that expensive – i buy a box of 148 Pampers baby dry for about $35.00 once a month, then a bag of like 54 for only $20.00 and that lasts a whole month.
Parents Choice diapers are cheap and work just as weel as expensive ones. They’re about $5.75 a box.
