Are Huggies That Awful?
From everyone I’ve talked to, and all the thousands of reviews I’ve read on Babies R Us .com, everyone seems to agree that Pampers are better.
I know that all diapers leak at times, but everyone says that huggies leak WAY more.
I registered for pampers, and I plan on using pampers.
…. but Huggies sent me 2 free sample-diapers in the mail… and they’re ADORABLE!
They’re the newborn ones, with the winne the pooh on them!
The newborn pampers swaddlers are just all white with elmo at the top. They’re pretty ugly.
Now obviously, this is the least important thing about a diaper.
And I’d rather not be doing 458304 loads a laundry because the oh-so-cute winne-the-pooh diaper leaked all over baby’s outfit
But the moron in me would love to use the Huggies simply because they look so much cuter.
Are that as terrible as everyone says?

I used Huggies when he was a newborn and up until he started crawling. Once he started crawling I switched to Pampers, since it holds a lot better for a baby on the move. But everyone is different. Diapers that worked for my son, didn’t work for my friends kid. I would just buy one pack of Huggies, and one pack of Pampers, then you can see which on works for your baby.
Go ahead and give the Huggies a try. Who knows you may find that you don’t like either the Pampers or the Huggies. Not all babies react the same to diapers, and if put on incorrectly or if the wrong size is used then any diaper could leak.
All the babies in my family have used different brand diapers. Luvs have been the preferred ones, but my cousin’s baby had to use a generic brand because the rest of the brands would cause really bad diaper rash.
Good Luck and Happy Diapering
I would not use Huggies. I would use Pampers Swaddlers. They work great for my little girl who is 2 weeks and 1 day old. I noticed too at the hospital where I gave birth they only use Pampers Swaddlers and also at the children’s hospital where she had to be transferred too after birth due to a birth defect they found, they use only Pampers Swaddlers.
I have heard the same thing about Huggies being terrible for babies. The Pampers haven’t even leaked once with us so far!
I used huggies for a long time. They are very bulky and even though they are much cuter they do leak more. I had the same thought, and used them because I liked them better. The only started leaking when my daughter started sleeping through the night. I now use pampers and they really don’t leak at all and they are much less bulky. Now that she walks and runs I think that they are better for her & less chance of chafing which means less chance of a rash!
No matter what diapers you pick, you are NOT terrible. And you’re going to be changing so many diapers, you wont be looking at them but what’s in them….
I think pampers are more cloth-like, and because of that they fit closer to baby’s body and prevent more leaks.
I see huggies are more like paper, stiff and thin, then can’t fit as snugly to the body so they allow more leaks
That’s just the way I think of it, others may disagree
EDIT- OH WOW, I MEANT AREN’T TERRIBLE NOT ARE TERRIBLE! SORRY
I personally didn’t like Huggies size 1 diapers for my child. She peed right down her legs twice. I never used Huggies newborn because a friend of mine said that when her daughter would have a blow out bowel movement it got all over her child’s clothes. Newborns do have blowouts because their digestive tract is new. I highly encourage you to use newborn swaddlers and swaddlers size 1 also. They are also a lot softer on a new baby’s bottom.
For me it was the other way around.
I HATED Pampers….the baby dry ones are horrible, they always leaked and they’re not stretchy at all. Plus they’re too pricey for not even working well.
Huggies worked pretty good, never really had a problem w/them. But i switched over to Luvs and i like them the best out of those three brands. Plus they arent as expensive.
I used huggies with my first son and plan on using them for my second. I work at children’s hospital and honestly I do not like pampers at all, anytime a baby gets a rash we make sure only huggies are used on them since pampers seem to cause more rashes than huggies. If I were you I would try them both and see what suits your baby best. Another plus to huggies are the coupons, huggies points earn better prizes and they are cheaper and cuter. Good luck
Try the free ones that you got and see what you think. Even if they leak, it’s only two diapers – big deal.
We used Pampers because we liked them and we thought that they leaked less. On the other hand, we have friends who swore by Huggies and would only use Pampers if for some reason there was no other choice.
I used huggies for all 4 of my children ( I tried pampers but didn’t like the fit of them around the legs ) the fourth is 1 year and still still in huggies supreme ( the regular huggies I found leak a bit more but not tuns ) The 3rd child had to go to cloth because of an allergy to chemical in disposables
I used pampers for my baby when he was a newborn the huggies would leak a lot. Once he started to get chunky I switched him back and they work great never had a problem with them. My son was very skiny at birth so even the newborn huggies were huge on him and would have lots of accidents.
LOL! I know what you mean. Well, no, they are not that terrible. Well, if you have a girl that is……my boys peed thru every brand of diaper made for about the first 3 months…ended up using luvs..at the time, they were cheaper, and actually worked way better than pampers or huggies. with the girl, it didnt much matter, she never really pees out of any diapers. but i do really still buy luvs mostly. unless she goes with me, and insists on the elmo diapers…
I use pampers sensitive wipes and diapers. I like them more because they feel softer (outside and inside), they dont seem as stiff as huggies, i like the scent of pampers, and over all they cost the same. I have tried Hugggies and they didnt leak but i was not pleased.
Actually, Huggies are the only diapers we have used. Everything else seems to irritate my daughters sensitive little tush. I really can’t say that we have had a lot of problems with leakage. I also like that I can buy them in bulk at Costco. It definitely saves $.
i used huggies in the newborn size and then switched to pampers once i hit size one.
they leak, but if you change your baby a lot they will not. so if your baby sleeps pretty good at night and you dont want to wake him/her to change a diaper then i would suggest buying pampers.
Personally, I didnt like them because they were either too small or too big, and gave my daughter horrible nappy rash for some reason. I prefer snugglers (Australia) but theres no reason you can’t give Huggies a go, they might work well for you =]
Congratulations and Good Luck!
pampers does not send as much coupons as huggies does.. but in my case, pampers was way better.. i used swaddlers then i used Luvs.. and I LOVE luvs.. With this baby i will use them sooner(LUVS).. In my case huggies gave my twins a rash!.. Honestly though, should it be “cute” that matters, it gets covered up
I am the odd one that found pampers leaked too much for us. I love huggies. We tried all kinds and have always come back to them. The trick is buy one size up- it stops leaks in a lot of diapers actually. My girl should in a size 3 but I put her in size 4 and they never leak
i don’t like them because they’re bulky it looks like the baby has filled their nappy as soon as you’ve changes them. I have never had any problems with pampers leaking urine but i have had poo coming out of the sides its rare though and my baby does giant poos
I found pampers and huggies pretty much interchangable. I found the store brand tend to be a little skinnier and not fit really chubby babies well. So with my first I used “name brand” from about month 2-6 and for my second I stuck with store brand (mostly Walmart Parent Choice brand)
Oh Lord, I HATED Pampers. They held nothing in with my son. Huggies was the ONLY thing that worked for the first 3 months. I did start using WalMart brand and Luvs to cut down on costs though.
I never had any leaking issues, they were cute, less expensive than Pampers. etc.
The first 2 months my daughters diapers leaked all over the place. Every single day I was changing her onesie because she pooped on it… and I tried them all – they all leaked! Now I use pampers (because they are soft) or LUVS (because they are cheaper than Huggies and pampers). But I have found that huggies are ok during the day but not for over night.
Aww what a pretty baby belly… Anyways, I liked the newborn Huggies with the cut out for the belly button, but once she was out of those they did leak a lot. I love Pampers. I never have leaks. She sleeps for 9 to 10 hours at night, and still no leaks.
Who cares what a diaper looks like…it`s how it functions. I used Noname. As long as they are absorbent and comfy for the baby, great.Pampers are costly. I ran a daycare for a while and Pampers were stinky and expensive, Huggies leaked.
ok, when my daughter was born i could only use swaddlers, the huggies seem 2 run big. when she out grew the newborn swaddlers, the newborn huggies fit her. so i just use the huggies as the transition size.
No. I used Huggies from the day my son was born until he was potty trained, and never had a problem with them at all. I plan to use them with my next child that is due in March. I wouldn’t change brands at all.
I always preferred Huggies myself — I found they fit better than pampers and didn’t leak as much. Mind you when you are used to cloth any disposable is great — 4 of mine were allergic to the perfume in disposables.
I got one free Huggies diaper in the mail and I used it on my baby and decided not to use those becouse that one I got leaked. I use Pampers or LUVS, both work great for me.
NO! I have used Huggies on my daughter since the day she was born! I would never use anything else and everytime I do they leak awful, far worse than my Huggies ever even thought of! It’s all an opinion and mine is Huggies Rule!!!
Momma_Bear
I use Huggies and Pampers both. I don’t see a difference and I have had very few leaks. The only deciding factor for me is what is on sale or what coupons I have.
I love huggies and pampers. Every baby is diffrent but you will just have to explore and try and see whats best for you.
