Best Formula Milk For A Windy Baby?
Hi,
My little girl is 3 weeks old and is suffering from wind after her feeds. I manage to burp her after every once or so and although she does free up alot of wind, she still suffers afterwards with wind when I put her down in her crib.
I am currently on SMA Gold and she is having around 4oz every 3-4 hours, sometimes she seems to still want more, although if I give her more she will become sicky.
The HV advised me to give her cooled boiled water inbetween feeds if she still seems hungry, which seems to be working, but my concern is her wind that causes her to be very unsettled especially at night.
Do you think I should change formula and if so, which formula is the best for windy babies?
I’m in the UK
Many Thanks x

hey, my sisters baby was diagnosed with coilc and is very windy and sicky bless him.
he was started on cow and gate even though my mum advised sma as cow and gate can be rich. my sis wanted to go on with cow and gate but switched to the sensitive range- cant rememer whats its called but is for more delcate tummies!! and it really helped.
she also adds the normal dose of Colief drops (you can buy over the counter but its not that cheap! but as his colic is diagnosed its free on prescription) -to his bottles at every feed, this really helps. If she runs out and gives a feed without it its a total sicky disaster!!!
All the best x =)
Have you tried any wind reliever ie Infacol or Gripe Water? My baby was very windy we tried the Infacol without much success and spoke then to hv and gp. We used SMA Gold and the health visitor suggest SMA staydown. However it was too thick in his bottle and he couldn’t get it out quick enough. The doc then diagnosed him with reflux and gave me Infant Gaviscon which I add to his bottle of SMA gold. Life is so much easier.
i always swore by cow and gate plus thats the number two milk.its for hungrier babys suitable from birth and so may help fill her a little better.i also had no problems bringing there wind up everytime they fed!very occasionally theyd get windy and it just helped lying them down and rubbing there tummys and back to help sothe them and try and bring some up.good luck with it all.
Most formula milk is of a likeness and there is no particular feed for windiness. I would stick to what she knows and follow the advice of your health visitor.
Congratulations on your daughter xxx
We have a product here in the US called Mylicon. This has worked beautifully with each of my babies. Add it into the bottle before every feeding or just drop it into the inside of the cheek. Google it. Good luck!
try using Dr Browns bottles, they are a bit more expensive than normal bottles but apparenty help alot with wind as they have a tube inside the bottle to stop air bubbles, try these you may not need to change the milk
nutramigen but its expensive
uk? sry can’t help

sma gold
Myself and a friend both started with SMA Gold, and both had windy babies (hers was colicky also)…I changed to Cow and Gate comfort, my friend to aptamil 1 and we both noticed massive differences. I know they say there’s no difference between the formulas but I think it’s worth a try. You could try baby massage on the tummy area (your HV can tell you about the technique). If she’ll tolerate it, rubbing her back gently while she’s on her tummy could help…also, if you feel it’s safe to do so, perhaps while you’re close, let her sleep/lie on her side….I found all these things to work with my son x
