Changing From Lactose Free To Normal Formula, Slowly Or All At Once?
I asked earlier today whether I should try convert my 5mth old to normal milk as I have heard it is bad to keep them on lactose free. I know now that it wont effect how he handles lactose later if I stay with the lactose free stuff, but I do want to change him over onto normal milk based formula (mainly as there is only 2 places in town I can get his lactose free stuff and its expensive).
Should I just switch it altogether at once, or do it gradually?
Of course if he doesnt go well with it, I will go back to lactose free…

Do it gradually over time. With my son, my doctor had me replace one bottle a day with normal formula… then if he tolerated it ok, the next day we went up to two bottles, etc.
Also – the first time you try it, do it first thing in the morning. that way if god forbid he has a bad reaction, you can see your doctor, or if he has an upset stomach from it, it has the entire day to work through it (rather than you being up all night).
Good luck!
Very gradual over a week or two of time. 1 oz new to 3 oz old for 3-4 days. Then up it to 2 and 2, then 3 and 1, etc.
You know, my daughter is 6 month and on breastmilk and ocassionaly soy milk or lactose free.
I tried to give her goodstart formula or enfamil, she would threw up an hour after that.
She could tolerate the regular formula only from Similac, but make her gassy all day long.
I try to introduce her slowly to regular formula but she would threw up all the time, so I stop.
I was lactose intolerance when I was a baby, after a year my mom just introduced whole milk right away, and here I am, can enjoy anything milk.
I just don’t want to make my baby suffer, because when she threw up, she’ll cry and uncomfortable (she barely spit up on soy or breastmilk).
