Cloth Diapers And Using Dreft?
I have heard many conficting views on which detergent really is the best to use for washing cd’s. I’ve been using All free and Clear and I’ve had some issues with leaking. I’ve started using Dreft which my mother in law suggested and have had no problems thus far. I also use a 1/4 cup of baking soda and a downy ball 1/2 full of vinager( only opens in rinse cycle) in every wash. Is Dreft really that bad to use? If it’s ok for baby clothes why not cloth diapers? Oh and my baby has not had any diaper rash form using Dreft either.

What type of diapers are you washing in Dreft? With cotton diapers you will not see adverse effects from this detergent as soon as you would with pocket diapers that have fleece in them for instance.
Dreft is not ideal as it contains scents, enzymes and brighteners.
If your baby is not bothered by the perfumes and enzymes you will be okay for awhile. However, eventually you will end up with smelly diapers even after they have been washed and you will need to strip them to solve your problems.
I would recommend changing detergents, our favourite is Country Save. It is low cost, environmentally friendly and rinses very clean from diapers.
This site has excellent information regarding washing diapers, choosing a detergent and trouble-shooting:http://www.pinstripesandpolkadots.com/ba…
I used Dreft for all my kids clothes and diapers. My baby is grown now so maybe things have changed.
the reason dreft is so good for baby clothes is because there is no fragrance and less detergent
because there is less detergent it’s not as good at getting rid of dirt and bacteria
here is a site for some wonderful cloth style diapers with flushable biodegradable inserts

Hi! Cloth diapers are best washed with a free and clear liquid but some are better than others. All Free and Clear is not one of the best. Purex Free and Clear is cheap and it worked for me. I have websites that I used to determine which one would work best for me. I have included it below:
Hope this helps! http://www.diaperjungle.com/detergent-ch…
my baby is 6 months and I’m still using dreft i tried to use half of dreft and half of mine to try to get her used to mine but she got a rash so i just continued to use dreft only so if your not having any rashes or problems i would continue using it
Not many babies really have to have dreft to clean their clothes. I think the free and clear is a more affordable choice also. If you use softener on your cd’s that could affect the absorbancy of the diaper. Softener actually helps cloth not absorb, so that may be the answer.
if your baby is ok then keep going i suppose.
I have heard conflicting views on Dreft – one site will tell me not to use it, another will say it’s okay.
The reason we are told not to is because Dreft may contain oils that coat the fibres of the diapers and leave them less absorbent and more likely to leak. However, other places I have checked say that laundry soaps do this, and Dreft is a detergent and shouldn’t.
However, as your experience shows you, Dreft doesn’t seem to cause leeks! I think the sites that are against it really haven’t tried it out. I found a great article on diaperpin.com that actually wrote a letter to Dreft trying to get it cleared up. Check it out!
