Diaper Rash Caused By Cloth Diapers?
My daughter (6 months) has been getting a diaper rash whenever she is in cloth diapers. This seems quite backwards to me.
They are Fuzzi Bunz. I wash with free & clear detergent, and run at least one rinse when they are done.
I have had her in disposables because the rash happens literally every time she is in cloth.
What can i do to stop this? This started happening around 4-5 months old (I haven’t been using the cloth any more) so it has to be somethign with the diapers.
Please help!

I would strip the diapers as well, and try changing detergents. It could also be because of what the baby is eating if you have introduced solids. Make sure you stay away from anything acidic.
I have an assortment of cloth diapers because of this. Pocket diapers have PUL which actually acts as a barrier and makes the diapers not breathable (which means she’s as likely to get a rash as disposables). You can try putting her in a fitted diaper which is a bit more breathable a couple of times a day when she’s home without a cover (just be careful because you can leak through a bit more easy since there is no cover).
I seem to have to only put my daughter in her fitteds about once or twice a week for a couple of hours and then she’s clear as can be. I’ve noticed it depends on what she eats tends to irritate her easier.
Best of luck!
Do a double rinse. One rinse doesn’t always get the detergent out. My son always gets rash if his diapers aren’t rinsed twice. Also make sure you’re changing them EVERY TIME your baby pees or poops as soon as possible. Johnsons makes a medicated baby powder that will help clear up any existing rash. Barrier creams build up on cotton diapers and make them less absorbent, so please avoid their usage.
cloth diapers/nappies are not as absorbant as the nasty chemical gel in disposables. This means that your daughter’s skin is in longer contact with urine when wearing cloth.
try using a barrier cream like zinc and castor oil before putting a cloth nappy on and reapply after every change. make she she is completely dry when you put the new nappy on.
You might need to strip your diapers. Check to see if they’re repelling pee by taking a clean diaper with an insert in it pouring a couple tablespoons of water on it. If it doesn’t soak through right away, you need to strip. Another sign that your diapers need stripped is if they smell bad. You also might want to change detergents. http://www.diaperswappers.com/forum/show…http://www.diaperjungle.com/detergent-ch…
The only thing I can think of is, did this start when she started solids? The solid food could have changed the pH of her urine, or made her stool more irritating, leading to the rash.
(Have you tried using diaper liners? Might not help, but it’s worth a try.)
is it possible she’s allergic to cotton? that does seem opposite to me. maybe add one more rinse cycle after you wash them
The “cloth” on the nappy can somtimes have fumes in it and the fuzziness could be irratating her bottom. It could also be somthing you wash it with. Stick with disposable nappys love
good luck with your darling daughter
last time i checked it was 2008!
why would you use cloth diapers?
