Do All Hospitals Give Free Gifts When You Give Birth (like Car Seats, A Diaper Bag, Or A Stroller?)?

Doubtful. The only thing our hospitals give is formula & a (crappy) diaper bag. There are places that will help you get a car seat. Call your local WIC office and see what they can tell you. As for a stroller, you can get one for $10 at Wal-Mart & K-Mart.

WOW. I didn’t get that. I did get a diaper bag from enfamil with a bunch of samples in it. But not a car seat or stroller. I wish I got that!
If the hospital has a new maternity ward they will give out car seats as a “promo” I don’t know any hospital that gives out strollers. Majoruty of hospitals you get a diaper bag, whatever diapers are left from the birth of the child, formula samples nad misc sample kits, depends on the hospital and what formula it is linked to similac or Enfamil.
The only thing I got for free was a diaper bag, diapers, and a small amount of formula. I think I could have gotten a car seat for free if I needed it, but that came from the Fire Dept not the actual hospital. I’ve never heard of anyone getting a stroller.
Something free from a hospital. Come on get real.
We got a diaper bag, that was all.
I got diaper bags and lots samples of baby items and mommy care items but not a stroller or car seat. . .
I got a diaper bag with stuff in it when my son was born.
i did not know any did.
I did get a free diaper bag, with some samples inside.
Formula, diapers, etc.
But, I sure didn’t get a car seat or stroller.
They may give you tips on what to look for in a quality carseat or stroller, but they won’t give you one. Wouldn’t that be nice though? They’ll give you a free diaper bag that will probably have some product samples in it, plus a trial run of formula and maybe a couple newborn diapers.
Can I add in that when you go to look for a carseat, don’t buy or take a used one. Everyone should buy a brand new carseat that is up to date with all the proper protocols. If you get a used one, there may have been a recall on it that you don’t know of, putting your child in major danger if you were to get in an accident.
Good Luck!
yeah- I dont think the stroller or carseat thing is accurate, most hospitals give free diaper bag, filled with formula and a coupon or two.
THATS IT!
What?!?! There are hospitals that give out free stollers and car seats?!?!?! Most give out a diaper bag with free samples in it thats all they are donated by the formula companies.
If you are short on cash go to your local goodwill, salvation army or yard/garage sales you can more then likely find one there. If you cant talk to a hospital rep before giving birth and they can loan you a carseat if you meet finincal guidelines but they dont have strollers.
Your dr has to be mistaken. 6 bags of diapers, a new car seat a stroller AND free formula..He’s wrong no hospitals do that call them yourself and find out.
All we get here are a folder filled with pamphlets. The hospital uses cloth diapers, so those don’t go home with you. You have to bring your car seat in to have it inspected before you can leave. How could a hospital afford to give stuff like that away unless it is a private one that charges tons. Everything is covered for everyone here (Canada). I haven’t even heard of them giving out formula samples since you can get them yourself from the company.
no
Some hospitals will offer a carseat to you, if you are on Medicaid. It’s not usually a very nice carseat; just a very basic one to help needy families. All I got was a diaper bag (if it could even be called that), some free formula samples and whatever supplies were left from the baby’s cradle. I would recommend buying one second-hand if you are looking to save money. You might be able to find some newer ones at a garage sale or on eBay.
No. Normally the ones that give car seats , they are given to the needy families that cant afford to get one. Im very picky on these items, and send days shopping for them. After i do research on saftey online.
With all 4 of my kids, I just got a diaper bag from the formula company. I got some samples of formula/diapers/baby products, nothing big like a car seats or stroller. They did ask if I had a car seat for my baby when I was in labor. It’s law now, at least in MI, that you have to have a car seat for your baby before they can be discharged.
No way never heard of anything like that. All I got was a diaper bag and some formula samples.
You must go to the hospital for the stars! LOL
We got a diaper bag provided by similac with some formula (trail sized) and a few samples of wipes, 2 diapers, diaper rash ointment, dreft, and some coupons.
Our hospital here provides donated car seats to families without the financial ability to buy them on their own.
Any major hospital, and even some clinics, will give you free items for your baby. Most of them do not offer strollers or car seats. You should be able to do a web search for the closest hospital to where you will be living and call them or email them about what items they normally send new babies home with.
And you can always get a few things for free online.
The hospital where my MIL works, she helps deliver babies. They give a free 5 point car seat with cover, shoulder strap diaper bag, diapers, large gift bag for mom and baby that a church lady makes, free hand breast pump, t-shirt, free cd pics taken of baby from birth to discharge. She tried using all this to get me to deliver there but I picked somewhere else closer to Children’s Hospital just in case of any emergency. My thought as to why they give so much is because the town I live in isn’t big and unemployment is highest in the state so many can’t afford those things. The first baby of the new year gets even more gifts than that.
my friend from alabama was given the choice between a car seat (graco- pink or black)or an electric ameda pump. plus a similac diaper bag with new pack of swaddlers
i gave birth in ky and was given 3 diapers, travel size lotions and soap, formula to supplement with breastfeeding until my milk came in and a small diaper bag
I delivered my son at kings daughters medical center in Ashland ky. I am not on any government programs either. They give everyone a free five point enenflo carseat. They give nice diaperbags too, I didn’t get one and I didn’t push the issue, because I already have one. I do think it would be awesome if all hospitals done it, I’m sure it would help out a lot of families.
Evenflo rather, I typed this on my phone and it has a mind of it’s own.
When I gave birth to my daughter August ’09, the hospital I had my c-section at gave us 2 large bags of super cute brand new clothes from Walmart, a hat, a pacifier, a brand new Graco carseat, baby books (for baby) that was sponsered through the library, an entire box of ready to feed formula, an entire package of diapers and a free coupon for Diapers.com. They give you the things after you give birth, and are gender coordinated! Not gender neutral.
I guess I was one of the luckiest!
Yes UAB does offer a free car seat and stroller combo. If you don’t need that they offer you a free breast pump. Thats so cool for people that can’t afford one.
I got a diaper bag from Similac with 2 cans of formula inside, a pack of Newborn diapers, 4 onesies, a hat, a nebulizer, a big ugly green pacifier, and a couple receiving blankets. The nurse said the diaper bags and formula were donated by Similac to promote their product. Gerber donated the onesies and hat. The hospital isn’t allowed to reuse the diapers on another baby, so I was allowed to take all of the supplies, whipes, diapers, etc inside his bassinet/cart.
Garfield Medical Center, in MPK CA, gives you either a carrier/infant car seat or an umbrella stroller along with an Enfamil diaper bag, samples, water, formula and a keepsake.
Thank you all. Great comments. Totally get the message-got to go shopping
In Alabama, USA in 2008 they gave a FREE electric breastpump by Medela. But they changed that in 2009.
In White Memorial Medical Center, CA where I delivered, I was given a stroller and a enfamil diaper bag with samples
well choice between car seat or stroller, the stroller is nice smaller than a full size but sturdier than umbrella : )
