I started doing this with my son at birth, he is now 7 weeks. I use cloth diapers and put him on the pot for a minute or two before changes, nursing, and after naps. I almost always “catch” something which saves a diaper. I’ll probably use the pot more snd more as he grows. I like this system because I use less diapers and he knows that he can pee and poop in the pot, not just his diaper!
It can work but it is VERY time consuming. If you have other younger children it might not be something you can fully dedicate yourself to.
I know that if you use cloth diapers or something like pull ups that make a baby feel wet, you can potty train much much faster.
Myself and most of my friends were all potty trained by 1, we are i our mid 20s now. Back then it was more common to potty train early b/c diapers where of worse quality
My mom used to put me on the potty from about 5 months periodically throughout the day until about 7 months when i would always pee on the potty or poo on it. lol sorry tmi
I have not personally tried it, but I know someone who has. You have to realize that it is not potty training the child-it is training YOURSELF.
I do not think it is stupid if someone wants to make that effort, but I chose not to even though I know someone that had success with it-because for our lifestyle it is just not practical.
I wish you the best if you try it, though.
We did some very low-key slacker EC with my younger son, and I consider it a great success. We never stressed over him using his diaper, but we gave him lots of opportunity to potty.
We started off just by taking off his diaper over the toilet, when he naturally went anyway. It’s simple, less messy and has lots of opportunity for success.
I have 6 kids and I have done EC starting at birth with the youngest 3. I love it! I found it much easier than full-time diapering and conventional toilet training. I did it full-time but you can do it part-time or even just occasionally to help keep up your child’s natural awareness. I recommend the following websites for more information:

Good luck!
I had never heard of this until I read your link !
It sounds like it would be all consuming in practice esp as you have an older child too. In this day and age with everying we have going on I couldn’t imagine anything worse !! But each to his own and if you think you could do it then go for it, although no baby can control himself until at least 2 anyway so why cause all that stress for yourself?
What about when you go shopping or just out ?
oh, yes, we do it and it is great fun.
It’s nice to see sensible responses mostly, and that people are open to a slightly different way.
Knowing that you can still use diapers is a great reassurance to most people, unfortunately so much bad publicity has people freaking out that you aren’t allowed to do EC and use diapers – as if you are breaking a rule and doing it wrong!
That’s silly.
EC is a simple activity to add to your daily activities with your baby.

We live in Amsterdam and there is a group here that does this along with a baby wearing dance class, i think it’s cool never understood how it worked(till i read your link, thanks!!, can’t imagine doing this in our life, but i know one thing we’d save alot of money and waste,
great idea though!
My friend adopted an eight month old baby. She noticed he was soiling his nappy at certain times, usually after food, so started putting him on the potty at these times. She found it was a great help and only realised it was a recognised method years later.
Sorry i cant help…..but WOW!! I wish i had heard of this before, my second is six weeks old, im not sure if im awake enough to read up on it now!
Defiantly going to be a read for later, good luck
I’m just picturing my husband’s face if I told him I’d decided we were trying this. The cloth diapers are already facing a bit of resistance!
I have a friend who did it with both of her sons, and it seemed to work great for her. Not something I’ve considered though
That is so stupid.
