Has Any One Tried To Potty Train Really Young?
My son is just turning 4 months old, and I am trying to potty training him and have been for 2 months already. This sounds crazy, but it is working. I read this book called “the diaper free baby” and it talks about how every country except America, they don’t even use diapers, they use signals from the baby when they have to go.
I tried this, I put my baby on the potty and he went poop and pee! Now if I continue to do this, when he is walking age he will just know to walk to the potty and go. Wow, once again America just wants to make money by making us think we NEED diapers….
Has anyone else tried this, Did it work? If you haven’t tried it… maybe it will work for you too. I am just curious, let me know. Thank you to anyone who responds.

I did what I call “slacker EC” with my younger son. He pottied regularly from birth on, but I never stressed over misses, and he wore diapers regularly. At home, that was usually a cloth diaper without a cover, changed whenever it was wet or dirty.
He was pooping in the potty all the time by 15-18 months, and at 2y2m is done with diapers entirely, with no stress or drama. It really worked for him!
Well, personally, I am not too concerned with potty training my 10 month old son just yet. There is plenty more that I am trying to teach him and know that all things will come in due time. I know that the potty training days will he here before I know it.
However, my mother in law did successfully have my husband and his sister completely potty trained by a year old, so it can be done. I hope it goes well for you if that is what you are planning for.
I think the problem may be the small bladder size of a small baby, causing the need to go more often, and lack of ability to control the muscles or realize when it is happening. Added stress to the baby when it should be learning other things and not concentrating on whether it is wet or dry. Some other countries also have their children outside most of the day.
Seems a little ridiculous to me, but if it’s working for you, great. Like other mommies who answered, I just do not have time to be taking my son to the toilet all the time and sitting him on it and waiting for him to go. I work full time and have a house to take care of. I’ve never heard of anyone starting potty training at 2 months…good luck with that!
funny- i’m not in america and my son is wearing a nappy (diaper) so that book has not got correct info on that! nobody that i know uses elimination communication, not even the people who originate from third world countries- they’ve never heard of what Your talking about, they just used cloth rather than the erratically available disposables
I know someone who did and it didnt work….also…I have heard it adds to much stress on baby and isnt’ good for them to push them at a young age.
Never that young. My first daughter started just after she turned 1. She was fully trained even at night by 18 months. Some kids are just ready earlier than others.
I WOULD try this if I had time and the paitence to clean up accidents.
I am fine with diapers right now lol
Good for you though! Dont listen to downers.
I hadn’t heard about it until recently. My son will be 1 this weekend, so I think it might be just as well to wait until he is a little older.
Edit: I don’t know about you, but I just didn’t have time when my son was an infant to be running back and forth to the toilet with him. I’m glad you find this book works for you, that is great! I like how we’re parenting though, but thanks for the question!
Most people do not have the time to run to bring their child to the potty every hour or less. Also if you have to have you child put in day care they will not do this for you. Also how do you handle the nights does the baby have to wear a diaper at night or do you get up often to bring them to the potty? There are a lot of countries out there that use diapers. Almost every country does use some form of a diaper. However this seems to be working for you so I guess to each their own. But I am too busy in a day to have to bring my little girl to the toilet to see if she has to go.
