This is a breastfeeding site, but it lists the signs of lactose intolerance. Odds are it isn’t lactose intolerance but another issue.
I would choose a lactose-free formula or a hypoallergenic one if your baby has problems with dairy. Soy is not a good idea for anyone, especially babies and specifically baby boys. Soy products contain isoflavones which are plant estrogens. This can lead to early puberty in girls and feminine traits in boys in addition to other problems.
If you go to the doctor and get baby tested for lactose intolerance you will be asked to collect a stool sample. Excessive windiness, explosive diarrhea, watery stool, failure to thrive are just some symptoms.
As for Diet C, thanks for the scare mongering, there’s nothing wrong with soy formula. I had it as a baby & now my son has it and we are both quite fine thank you.
Both my children were lactose intolerant. My oldest we found out because after every feeding he had forceful vomits and then with my second son he had issues with spitting up a lot after every feeding. We just switched them to soy formula and they were fine.
Recent studies have shown that mylicon does not work at all. As to a lactose allergy, I would just switch to something else to see if that makes a difference.
