How Do You Know If Your Baby Is Intolerant To A Certain Formula?

My baby is 5 weeks old and is now on Similac Sensitive (lactose-free). Whenever we feed him 3-4oz at a time right after he feeds he gets really fussy and won’t stop crying for like a half hour. Am I giving him too much formula or is the formula not sitting well with him?

Try the enfamil, my baby had the same issue and the lacto-free enfamil in a dr. brown bottle fixed all the issues. You can be getting air in his tummy, pick up one bottle and try it with a couple feedings with your same formula it might help. The dr. brown bottles are more work but I love them!
How long has he been on that particular formula? It can take up to 2 weeks for them to adjust to a new formula. Is he having any other symptoms? Gas, diarrhea, vomiting, bloody stools, etc.??
My daughter has a severe milk protein allergy. Her symptoms included screaming pretty much non-stop, vomiting, painful, explosive diarrhea and stomach cramps.
If he isn’t having other symptoms and is just fussy I would try cutting back on the feedings. That sounds like quite a bit of formula for a 5 week old. My daughter is 4 1/2 months and only takes 4 oz at a feeding. I would try smaller more frequent feedings to see if he does better.
My suggestion would be to try Nestle Goodstart Supreme. My daughter has a host of allergies including not tolerating lactose and she did amazing on this formula! She is 19 months now and still drinks it because she can’t drink cow’s milk. Even though it is a cow’s milk based formula it doesn’t affect her at all. It’s also not pricey like those hypoallergenic formulas. I’d give it a try. Also, just a note: it can produce odd colors of poops, but it’s normal. My daughters were green.
My daughter started on similac and it just didnt sit right with her we tried everything and I am with the mom who had to use goodstart. She got constipated and spit up alot on all similac. Goodstart Is super inexpensive and she is now a year and doing great!!! Talk to your ped he/she will be more aware of what it could be. I really hope it helps wish I had help with my princess..
