How Does Lactose Intolerant Baby Behave?
Hi, can anyone share how a normal healthy 9 week old baby boy supposed to behave before and after feeding when awake? My son’s Dr thinks he could be lactose intolerant because my baby moves alot and never seems to sit quietly. We changed to a lactose free formula and his acne returned and has this phlemy sound in his throat again. This happened when I was still breastfeeding but stopped when we switched to regular formula. He was recently diagnosed with acid reflux but are still confused if this intolerance has anything to do with his reflux?

Hi there, I put my son on soya milk about a week ago (hes 3 months) he suffers from very bad reflux and it sick quite alot. He was very unsettled, whingy, not sleeping, gassy, stomach pains etc. So I switched him to soya milk and hes better than he was, not great, but better.
20% of babies that have a lactose allergy also have an allergy to soya too. Is he taking anything for the reflux? Lactose allergy isnt directly related to having reflux.
I looked at this site, and my baby had all the symptoms of an allergy. See what you think.http://www.babycentre.co.uk/baby/startin…
I’m not sure how they “should” behave, but I’ll share my store with you as briefly as possible, in hopes that it helps you. First, I’m mildly lactose intolerant myself, I began by breastfeeding my daughter. While I was breastfeeding, she seemed as though her little tummy was always hurting her. She had painful gas and spit up all the time, much more than I’d ever known of a baby to do, and she gained weight slowly, but was still healthy. I tried cutting everything I could out of my diet but it didn’t help. I ate what I needed to keep us both healthy, but she was still hurting all the time. When my milk dried up at 3 months, we switched her as slowly as possible to regular formula. We tried every brand. Then we tried Similac’s lactose free milk based and she did wonderfully on it. But, thanks to the extremely high cost of formula, I had to get her on WIC to afford it. At least here in my state, you can only get Similac Advance and Similac Advance Early Shield (regular or soy) and nothing else, even after having a special written request from a doctor, so we had to switch to soy. She’s done even better on that. She started gaining weight perfectly and is now an extremely happy baby with next to no tummy trouble (what she does have is normal, as far as I can tell, and not very uncomfortable). That’s how we figured out she was lactose intolerant. I hope this helped. Sorry I don’t know much about the reflux. Good luck!
With all that’s going on you will want to talk with your doctor…
But The baby acne can be caused from the baby being fussy because of the colic, causing increased blood flow to the skin, which creates the acne.
I had my colicy babies on Nutramigen, which was wonderful. They (twins) had it really bad so I also used Mylicon drops. With the Mylicon you just put a couple of drops in their bottle.
With the acid reflux, just make sure you prop your baby up so he’s laying at an angle and also leave him propped up for awhile after feeding to insure proper digestion. If this persists, you will want to address it as not to cause permanent damage such as Barretts syndrome. An adult friend of mine has that and has to sleep with a wedge to prop him up at night… it also makes him extremely sick when he has an episode.
Anyway…the best thing to do is keep addressing these issues with your doctor and if they don’t seem to take care of it, maybe take him to a specialist…
Good luck!!!
