Is Soy Formula (isomil) Safe?
I am switching my 3 week old son to soy powdered infant formula but the research I’ve done online is a bit scary! My hubby and I were both on soy formula as babies and my daughter was on lactose-free formula but was very colicky and gassy and spit up alot. He seems very calm on soy formula and doesn’t spit up anymore or cry. Whereas with the Similac Sensitive he would cry in his sleep and seem to be in pain and had a bout of diarrhea ![]()
Anyways I JUST WANT REASSURANCE FROM real parents with real experience with soy formula and milk allergies..

my super healthy 6 month old boy has been on the similac isomil soy since 1 months of age. He’s doing real good! No gas at all! He looks healthy, he weights 20 pounds and 27 inches.
Never had a problem and I am thankful to this formula since I couldnt use my boobs and the similac advance was horrible on his tummy
If a standard milk formula isn’t working, it’s okay to try a soy formula. No formula is really “safe” since they all have major drawbacks, but some babies do thrive on it.
Also know that you should still have the option of breastfeeding if you find that formula just doesn’t work the way it’s advertised. Some babies just don’t do well on formula, but you’re lucky that you are just a few weeks in and can easily bring your milk supply back or increase it.http://www.llli.org/FAQ/relactation.html
this is my first baby and my doctor was the one who actually mentioned the soy formula and my baby is 3 1/2 months and have been using it since she was born. When my baby was on regular similac, she was so fussy. To answer your question i haven’t heard anything bad about the soy formula. Ask you pediatrician as well.
My son has severe allergies. I breast fed at first but he wasn’t gaining weight and the dr wanted me to supplement with a higher calorie formula. Of course once my son had the extra calorie formula, he lost all interest in breast feeding. He gained weight on the new formula, but it became clear that he had a milk allergy. We tried many different types of formula, but stayed away from Soy as it is a synthetic estrogen and their are reports that it can feminize male children. Is your son’s problem with milk protein or lactose (milk sugar)? If it is milk protien try Alimentum. That worked the best for us.
maybe you should have breastfed because thats the ONLY SAFE thing to feed a baby. all formula is equally horrible and damaging for infants
