My Baby Is Two Months Old And Cries An Hour After Feeding Looking For More. I Can’t Get Him On A Schedule!
My baby is two months old and I switched him to a lactose free formula to see if it would stop his crying after feeding. If I lay him down he cries almost immediately. After an hour of feeding he runs his hands to his mouth for more food even though he doesnt finish his 5 ounces during the feeding. How can I get him to stop crying when I set him down? Even if he is asleep he will wake up and cry when I lay him down. I’m going to go crazy!

Stop laying him down. It sounds like he could possibly have a case of Silent Reflux, where they don’t actually throw up. It hurts which could be the cause of him crying for an hour. Try keeping him elevated in a baby swing, carseat, etc., for at least 30 minutes after he eats to see if this helps. He may be wanting to suck to comfort him, because babies with reflux tend to comfort nurse/eat while they are refluxing because swallowing fluids in makes it feel better, but in the long run, makes the reflux worse due to overfeeding. Try feeding him smaller amounts, more frequently also. Like only give him 3 oz and then two hours later give him more, if he will tolerate that. Talk to his pediatrician at his next appointment or call them for an appointment to discuss your concerns.
It might be gas. My son had really bad gas and would be the same way and suck on his hands and cry….well it was more of a kind of yell/scream…and he was constipated. I talked to his doctor and switched him from enfamil to similac and it worked wonders. I would talk to his doctor and in the mean time try some infant’s gas drops, they aren’t too pricy.
A baby swing was one of the most helpful things for getting my fussy baby to sleep. Sometimes babies fall asleep before they finish eating and then they suddenly wake up when they realize they are still hungry. You need to then feed him some more. After you are sure he is full, then put him in the swing. Also a pacifier may be what he needs because some babies have a much greater need for sucking to soothe them.
It could be gas or something if hes crying as soon as you lay him down. You might want to burp him a few times during a feeding. This way he might finish the bottle all the way through. Also it could be possible that hes teething which is why hes trying to suck on his hands, try giving him a teething ring or something.
he is too young for you to just set him down. if he cries because he is hungry feed him!
If he is crying he is either still hungry or not done with you. At 2 months old your baby isnt really ready to be on a schedule yet. That will come in time… the babys time though. When your baby is ready he will start getting his own routine going and then you can start shifting it bit by bit to fit your schedule. If he crys when you stop feeding him, keep feeding him. If he cried when you put him down, pick him back up and calm him down. Maybe try putting him somewhere else when you put him down and see if he still cries. My son enjoyed sleeping in a ‘nest’ around that stage. We would bunch up a comforter in a chair and place him in the middle of it. Making sure, of course, that nothing would cover his face or call on him.
He could be allergic to the soy in the lactose free formula, it is probably giving him gas and he thinks he is full. Then he gets a tummy ache- it had this problem with 2 of my kids.
Try Similac alimentum advance.
I agree with momutts. please keep baby elevated for at least 30-45 min after feeding. you can also get foam wedges to put under babys mattress for elevated sleeping. Have dr. check it out. Most babies have some form of reflux, spitting up ect… but the best thing aside from starting baby on medicine, which you hate to do at such a young age, is to keep him elevated.
PLUS!! He’ll love the extra cuddles!!
good luck and God bless!!
Listen to momutts… Sounds like silent reflux, my son has that. My doc recommened a tbsp of rice cereal in the bottle and to have them sitting up for at least 30 minutes after each feeding. Good luck! It’s hard when they go through this. My son is 4 months and still needs the rice.
get a sling…..he wants to be held…….so get a good sling and keep him on you…….this will make your life so much easier
1. Do you have your son in a routine??? Babies thrive on routine, if you don’t have your bubba on a routine START! you will see positive changes within a few weeks and make sure when you do get into a routine that you don’t deviate away from it and 2. Do you burp your son after you feed him???? if you don’t he may have wind pains in his belly which cause him to cry when you lay him down.
To get him to eat his 5oz, give 1/2 first then burp him give him a 10-20mins break inbetween and then give him the remaining 1/2 and then make sure you burp him again.
When you go to put him down besure you are swaddling him as well, this will make him feel safe and secure and he will stay asleep longer. And if he stirs just pat him on his bottom for 10mins and he will settle and go back to sleep for alil longer.
If the child was around alot of noise as a fetus/before he was born/ or as an infant that was what was most comfortable to him.
What I suggest is:
Laying down on your back without a shirt on and when the baby is sleepy, lay him on your stomach/chest and let him fall asleep. See if that helps :]
(Shirt off because it may be ruff to the babys skin)
He may need a little noise, try playing some music when you lay him down too. That may also help.
With the constant crying, I have no idea. But if he his hungry feed him xP
I can simpathize I went through this with my first. come to think of it my second didnt get on a schedule and become an easy baby till about 4 months. My advice is just stick to doing what your doing, it will start to work , it just takes time. Hang in there. Dont beet yourself up because your baby isnt doing what you hear others are, or what a book tells you they “can” be doing, all babies are different, and it will drive you crazy to if yours does not want to conform and believe me they wont till they are ready
Sounds like he just needs to be held.
I have a Baby K’tan sling and it is wonderful. I put baby in the upright position or cradle after feeding and he falls right asleep all cozy and fed. definitely look into getting a good sling for yourself…
