I bought all newborn diapers to prepare for when baby comes home! How many woman skip the N and go straight to 1?? I have no 1 diapers at all (accept for free samples).
Right now I have 4 packages of N diapers from different brands. Should I stock up on 1 too, take some N back??
Whats your opinion!

You can always take them back, but I only used 1 package of newborn diapers. I took the rest back and a couple of unopened packs to a friend who was still pregnant. My daughter was born 8 lb 13 oz and I could only manage to squeeze her into newborn diapers for about 4 days.
I’d get maybe one pack of size 1s, just so you don’t have to run to the store if baby is too big. I wouldn’t take the newborn ones back though, because as soon as you do you’ll end up having to make an extra trip because you needed them after all! (At least that’s how things always seem to happen at my house.)
Good luck and congrats on your new little one!
You are like me, I like to be prepared. But NO don’t stock up on newborn diapers b/c they only last about a month not even on them. Depends how big is the baby, mine was almost 9 pounds and he last 3 weeks on newborn.
Congrats
My daughter weighed 7 lbs. 15 oz. when she was born and she went straight to size 1, we didn’t even buy ANY newborn size diapers.
All depends on how big your baby is. My two boys I used the newborn size for about a month. My daughter only wore newborn size in the hospital and went straight to 1. She was born weighing 9 lbs 12 oz.
Yes i wold for sure, some babys are too small for them at birth, my son only used them for about two weeks.
my daughter was in N for weeks, 4 maybe. She was 6lbs, 15oz. and was still to small for size 0 months. She went through A LOT of diapers in the very beginning b/c they don’t like being wet for long. I would get some size 1 because bigger is better than smaller, and you will need them eventually. Newborns tend to have what I call ”poop explosions” so having a wider, longer diaper helps too! Shopping club stores like Sams and Costco have the BEST prices on diapers! You have to buy a yearly membership, but if you are buying diapers and wipes every few weeks it really makes the difference! Congratulations and good luck!
It depends on how big your baby will be. My daughter was small, so was in the N size for over 2 months, but I know other babies that skipped right to size 1 (larger babies of around 10lbs). As a general rule, it’s probably best not to stock up on the smallest size as much, since with the bigger sizes, you know they baby will eventually grow into it. Just have a couple of packs of N and some size 1 if you want and then buy more when you know the size. You’ll also find as you go along that there are brands you prefer and brands that don’t work for your baby, so it’s best not to buy too many to start with.
Best of luck!
Just use them. What’s the problem? Unless you have a huge baby, they’ll probably fit.
Unless you live a long way from shops (in which case terry nappies might be a more practical solution) why this frantic need to “stock up”?
mine was in premiee for about 6mnths then went straight to the 1 and then 4 mnths later in the 2 i would maybe get one pack bnut then play by ear kinda thing you never know each baby is so different.
maybe one pack n and the rest size 1
You should always stock up on ones and up. Most babies are not in Newborns too long.
I answered your other question as well, but if you can take back some of the newborn diapers I would or if you know someone else having a baby you could pass them on to her. Most babies are in the newborn diapers for about 2 weeks give or take depending on their size. The main difference in newborn and size one is that newborn diapers have the slope in front so it doesn’t hit their belly button before they lose the rest of their cord, however you can always fold down the front of size one diapers to allow room for the cord if the baby is bigger.
My daughter was in the newborns for about 2 months, then went to the 1/2′s (for some reason several brands combine them) for what seemed like forever. She is almost 2 and has been in size 3′s for about a year. If she weighs 25 pounds now, she’s soaking wet with rocks in all of her pockets. She was 6 lbs 11 oz at birth.
I would wait until you know for sure. Most major retailers will take unopened packages back w/o a receipt. My daughter was in N’s for about 1.5 months, then in a 1 for about 3 months and has been in a 3 for the last 2 months.
When I was preggers I got in the habit of buying a package every time I went to the store. That way I didn’t get quite the ‘sticker shock’ everytime I went shopping after she was born.
Another good idea is to have someone throw your husband/boyfriend a “Poop and Poker” party. Kind of like a boys baby shower. Instead of cutsie presents, everyone should bring diapers and/or wipes. GREAT way to stock up!!
it depends on how big the packages are you might just use two bags and have to return the others to get size 1
A little of both…We had our baby shower, we ended up with all different sizes, it really helped in the long run.
My son was 8lbs at birth and went right to Size 1 with the front folded down a bit. Many of the newborn diapers have a cut-out in them so they won’t rub on the healing ambilical stump, but it’s not neccessary.
Keep your N diapers & stock up a bit on size 1 as well. If you don’t use all the newborn diapers, they’ll make a great gift for the next baby shower you go to.
I went straight to the 1′s.. my daughter came out at eight pounds. That is the starting weight for that size. I would take all the Newborn diapers back because you will not use them. If on the off chance you do need them, it will be maybe one pack or so. It will be easier and not to mention cost effective to just put them in 1′s from the start.
May be one pack. otherwise use all the newborn diapers, they’ll make a great gift for the next baby shower you go to.
