CAIRO, Egypt – A 27-year-old Egyptian woman gave birth to septuplets early Saturday in the coastal city of Alexandria, family members and the hospital director said.
Ghazala Khamis was in good condition after having a blood transfusion during her Caesarean section due to bleeding, said Emad Darwish, director of the El-Shatbi Hospital where she gave birth.
The newborns, four boys and three girls, weigh between 3.2 pounds and 6.17 pounds and are in stable condition, Darwish said. They have been placed in incubators in four different hospitals that have special premature baby units, he said.
“This is a very rare pregnancy — something I have never witnessed over my past 33 years in this profession,” Darwish told The Associated Press by phone from the hospital.
Darwish decided to carry out the Caesarean section at the end of Khamis’ eighth month of pregnancy due to the pressure on her kidneys. He said Khamis, who already has three daughters, took fertility drugs in an effort to have a son.
Khamis, the wife of a farmer in the northern Egyptian province of Beheira, was admitted to the hospital two months earlier, Darwish said.
“From the initial checkup, I say that none of the babies have any sort of deformities or incomplete organs,” Darwish said.
The woman’s brother, Khamis Khamis, said even though his sister was trying to conceive more children so she could have a son, the family was astonished when they found out she would give birth to multiple babies.
“We thought about an abortion, but then we felt it’s religiously forbidden. So we said ‘Let God’s will prevail,’” he told the AP by phone.
Egypt’s health minister announced that the seven babies will receive free milk and diapers for two years, the brother added.
My daughter is almost 6 weeks old. She was on Enfamil Lipil for her first week. She had constant bms, about 10 times a day. Then she was on soy and lactose free formula which gave her painful gas. So then she was on gentlease until last Friday. She is now on Alimentum. I had told her pediatricians that she was allergic to milk, but they would not listen. I also told them she has acid reflux but they again didn’t listen. Last Thursday, she was screaming bloody murder for over a hour and I couldn’t get hurt to calm down. It was her feeding time, but she refused the bottle and continued to scream. I took her to an after hours pediatriciacs center at the recommendation of my pediatrician. They told me she definately has a milk allergy, acid reflux, an ear infection & a sore throat. However, my pediatrician did not allow for her to prescribe the drops for the acid reflux as they wanted to. So I took her to her pediatrician the next day & they said she didn’t have an ear infection. But they
I came here as a first time parent about this because I was getting mixed answers from everyone else. My son is a very healthy and happy baby thank you very much. I let him play with a baby wipe for god sakes. It’s not like I gave him a knife to play with. My son has no teeth and therefore can’t bite pieces off the wipe. It takes but 30 sec. to change his diaper. You people act like I let him do it all hour of the day. So I should be called a bad parent and have DHS called on me for giving my child a baby wipe for a second? WTF is wrong with you people? I’m sure all of you are just the perfect parents. Get fu*&^*& real. I looked on the box and nowhere on it does it say that it’s not safe to eat. That’s why I asked in the first place. It’s alcohol free so no there is NO alcohol in them. The only thing it says not to do is let them play with the box.Thank you for all the people who just gave me advice without judging me. I’m sorry I didn’t know the perfect way to be a parent.
I have mixed opinions. Obviously it’s important for any “parent” to finish school and at least get their high school diploma, however, I think schools (and society in general) are making it a tad too easy for little girls to realize their fantasies of having a baby when they are themselves, still a baby. I have heard children (and by children I mean kids from 13 to 17 years old) speaking about getting pregnant and how they are not at all afraid of the financial or physical responsibilities. One girl told me “It will be fine. My mom would LOVE to have another baby so she will babysit anytime I want to go out and I can just go on welfare and get free insurance and stuff.” Her school also offered a free daycare center in the high school and by the sounds of it, the kids just drop their babies off in the morning and go check on them throughout the day to show them off like baby dolls. On one hand, I realize the importance of having a high school diploma and how a free daycare in school can facilitate that for girls who find themselves in that situation. However, I think the whole world is just making it a little too acceptable and easy for kids to have babies of their own. (It’s sort of like the prison situation. Prisoners have more rights and in many cases, more amenities, than many hard-working Americans. So of course people aren’t afraid of the threat of going tot jail/prison). Maybe if we started making consequences a little more of an issue, we could cut back on both troublesome situations. What are your opinions? Try not to be too politically correct. I really want to know what people think.
(And to the teenage mom’s out there, I am not putting you down. I’m would hope you most of all would discourage another teen from going out and getting pregnant, right? You don’t have to regret your baby in order to admit you learned something from what you have/are going through.)
Is anybody else irritated by the fact that when you get the free diaper bag w/ samples at the hospital that you get what ever formula they use not necessarily the kind you’ll use?
I’ll be starting maternity leave in about 8 weeks or less. I’ll be taking about 10 weeks off. We’ll be okay financially but it will be tight. Does anyone know of any financial resources for maternity leave? We don’t qualify for any type of government assistance so that counts Family First and W.I.C. out. Also, does anyone know where I can get free samples of formula, diapers, etc? Thanks!
My son would drink from them. I went out and bought a few bottles and tried them out. I found I like the Avent bottles or the playtex dropins the best.
So i am trying to search for some baby shower games
and i come across bingo
i am kind of confused
The guests play? and what happens when they win? they get a gift?
And what were your fav shower games? This is my first baby so any ideas on what is fun and websites that give good free stuff to print out would be much appreciated ![]()
Thanks
This question may gear more towards those who use cloth diapers. I just bought some on ebay b/c I heard this soap is one of the best along with Allen’s Naturally and CountrySave. I’ve been using Purex Free and Clear and am wondering if that is why my BumGenius diapers are leaking every now and then.
