advance and also lactose free formula (recommended by her paediatrician), however she is still suffering from severe gas. I have tried using Mylicon and gripe water, which gives her temporary relief. Any suggestions for soy based and rice based milk, which would be better for her ? I want to stop breast feeding in a month.

Weaning From Breast Milk To Formula?

I am trying to wean my 6 month old to formula because I am going back to work and in 3 months I am going away for 2 weeks on my honeymoon and I dont want to be leaking while im there. I have slowly been trying for 2 months now but he has had a few problems and he is very stubborn. I recently found the formula that works for him. It is a milk free formula. The problem I am having now is getting him to drink it. I have tried mixing it, giving it to him from a cup and different nipples. He cries till I give him the boob and I keep giving in. My mom wants to take him for 1 night and try to do it cause I cant watch him cry. Should I let her? She said it will probably work but he will probably be upset and I shouldnt see him. I think it would be good for both of us. Any other suggestions

Baby Allergic To Breast Milk & Formula!!!?

After a scare when my son was first born when he stopped breathing and then spent a week in the NICU for severe jaundice, lung infection and belly button infection, my son who is now 3 weeks and 3 days old has had water diahorrea for weeks and he screams for hours every day and has so much bottom end wind!
We tried him on 2 different normal formula’s which he projectile vomitted everywhere, and then tried a lactose free formula, which made his pooh better but again he projectile vomitted it a few hours after feeding.
So I have been expressing breastmilk and feeding him with gaviscon in every feed, but this has only slightly improved the pooh and pain issues.
So today, his paediatrician diagnosed him as milk and soy protein allergic and lactose intolerant and has advised me to stop breastfeeding and give him ELECARE Formula which has no milk/soy protein, diary free, lactose free etc.
It smells like fertiliser and tastes like fertiliser.
The problem is that he was not happy to drink it. He takes a few sucks and screws up his face and then pushes the teat out of his mouth. I then put it back in and we go through the entire process again.
In the end he only drank 45mls of his normal 120mls feed and was getting so upset and tired I fed him breastmilk to finish off his feed.
Any suggestions?

Formula And Breast Feeding Mommies?

I wanted to ask this again, because the words got twisted around a bit and i only got one legitimate answer.
If you have a personal experience, feel free to share.
Yes, this is the age old “debate”
If you chose to breast feed from birth, why is it okay for the hospital to offer formula to the baby and that’s okay, but on the other hand if you are formula feeding from birth, it’s NOT okay to recommend that you breast feed. Formula is thrown at babies with jaundice, even though the mother has colostrum which will still make the baby have bowel movements, so it’s not always a valid reason to use formula in place of breast milk. That’s just one example I have heard from breast feeding moms on here, being offered formula at the hospital.
Then on a different not, I have heard women complain about WIC encouraging breast feeding. Isn’t WIC supposed to help teach you proper nutrition, not just give out checks for free formula? Good nutrition would be encouraging the best option, right?
So offering formula is not pushing, but bringing up breast feeding as an option is pushing?
What makes the difference?

i have been informed that with my low paying job, i will be eligible for a free breast pump that is of a high quality through social services (either that or free formula – and i had much rather do breast milk than formula).
so i am kind of afraid of sore nipples and even more afraid that the baby will not take to the nipple at all, so i thought i’d do strictly bottles using only breast milk.
is this a good idea?

Seriously?

i am feeding milk based but lactose free formula (because it says its for fussiness and gas) until i can bring in enough breast milk, can i feed both @ the same time until i can switch to just breast milk? I would ask her ped. but it’s the weekend
