I am new to cloth diapering and have just started to wash my diapers. Here is how I’ve been washing them:
Cold wash with 1/3 cup baking soda
Hot wash/Cold rinse with 1/3 cup baking soda and All free and clear w/ half of recommended detergent
Cold rinse w/ downy ball half full of vinegar
Cold rinse again to remove vinegar smell.
How many times do I wash them this way? Is it ever ok to just wash them on hotwash/cold rinse with half of detergent and vinegar? Is it common for cloth diapers to create lint balls when you first start washing them and does this ever stop? Also how do you know when you need to strip your diapers?
Like I said I’m totally new to cloth diapers and want to make sure I wash them right so I get the maximum absorbancy and softness.

How do you wash your cloth diapers, especially if you use more than one kind. I am so confused. I have bum genius 3.0 one size diapers and a happy heiny, and an getting some prefolds with covers as well. The two pocket diapers came today, but have conflicting washing instructions. One says to use a natural soap or an “all free” detergent, and the other says specifically not to use a natural soap or all free detergent, just to use regular tide?? Any help??

I have kushies diaper covers and cotton squares to go with. i have been doing the cloth diapers for about three days and my son has pooped twice. and leaked twice! the poop stays in the diaper cover but not on the cotton. the pee stays in as well but the cover gets wet on the sides. it’s mostly the part inbetween his legs. he moves around and the diaper shifts and bunches up and stuff. the cover is pretty tight, i don’t want him to have red marks on his legs or anything. I just don’t know how to fold it so that the middle doesn’t bunch up!
i’m okay with pee getting on the cover because that just dries off but the poop is annoying. he’s 10 months and still mostly breastfed. he’s very mobile (nearly walking as of a couple days ago!) so could that be the problem?
i’ve done a modified kite fold (folded it in a bit extra so it doesn’t wrap all the way around his waist) and the “poo catcher” but neither of those ways worked. i really don’t want to use pins (or snappis or anything)
is there a specific way i need to put it on him or fold it to avoid leaks? i usually put the diaper in the cover and then slide it under his butt then bring it up front and velcro up the cover. should i do the cloth and then put the cover over after the cloth is on? help please! i really want to give the squares a fair shot (they were free) but i am thinking i might just go buy fitteds.

I am currently pregnant with twin girls, & I am due in two weeks EXACTLY! Thier daddy has sensative skin & I had to switch to the BABY detergent from Seventh Gen for his skin BEFORE I knew I was pregnant. With this in mind, I am assuming my babies are going to have sensative skin like thier daddy, & I hear about diaper rash from all the brands of disposable diapers from my friends who have kids. I don’t have the time for cloth diapers & the nanny probally wouldn’t use them anyway when I am at work…so I was looking at Seventh Generation since they say that they are chlorine free & soft, but what does that mean? HOW are they any different than Wal-Mart’s white cloud brand of diapers? I mean a diaper is a diaper right? I am a first time mom & at my shower I was given a box of Luv’s, Huggies, Pampers, & Seventh Gen!! It was like everybody had thier diaper favorite! So which would be best with sensative hinees for two little baby girls???

My 3 month old son has had a nasty diaper rash pretty much since he was born. We change him frequently, use dye free, fragrance free mild soap, and have switched from wipes to bactine and baby powder. All of these changes have noticeably helped, but he’s still pretty miserable. I’ve been entertaining the thought of switching him to cloth diapers, but need some advice.
We currently only spend about 25 a month on diapers. We are on an extremely fixed income, and the prices I’ve seen for some single cloth diapers on the internet is comparable to what we pay for around 60 disposables. That seems a bit daunting to me, so before I even bring the idea up to my husband, I’d like to know what brand we’d be getting, how many we’d need and about how much it’s going to cost.
So my question is what brands do any cloth diapering moms out there recommend, and about how many do we need? All I know so far is that I want the ones with Velcro, and preferably the kind with the insert, though it’s not necessary.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

Luvs just came out with new diapers that have stretchy tabs (like Huggies or Pampers) and they work GREAT!
I received an e-coupon for buy 1 get 1 free on them from Target and I’m sharing with you because its a great deal.
They only come in size 3 and up right now, they are in the same Luvs packaging but they have a bear in the corner of the package and says something about “bear stretch tabs”.
Anywho…just print and take it to Target and get your diapers!
I sent my hubby through with another coupon behind me and we ended up with 4 packs of diapers for $22.http://tinypic.com/fullsize.php?pic=67q4…

I’ve decided on using cloth once my husband and I have a baby. I’m trying to price it and figure it out… we’re TTC now and I just wanted to have a more educated budget and idea of what’s up. So I have a few Q’s… please answer if you can and feel free to give any more info you think would be helpful…
1-What is the best brand?.. and why? (Fuzzi Bunz are the ones I’ve been considering.. anyone know how they are??)
2-How many diapers is reasonable to get in each size?
3-Do cloth diapers help or hurt diaper rash?
4-How often does a baby need to be changed while wearing a cloth diaper?
5-Should a special detergent be used as to be more sensative to the skin of the baby? … if so.. do you have any recommendations?
Again, please feel free to add on info that you think would be helpful. Thanks so much!

Is diapers.com the best place to get diapers online? Or is there a better place?
I live in a very, very small town and our local grocery store sells Luvs (my chosen brand) but it’s $14.98/pack. The nearest store, Wal-mart is about 45 miles away so I like to buy my diapers online, it’s more convenient.
I just purchased diapers for the baby I am expecting this summer at diapers.com and got a extra large case of size 1 (264 ct), newborn jumbo pack (42 ct) and jumbo pack size 2 (50 ct) for just under $40. I thought it was a good deal, but maybe there are better deals out there! What do you think? Any better deals?
(I used coupon code BABYLUV09 for $10 off and free shipping, in case anyone is looking for a deal at diapers.com)

Does anyone know where I can get some online? I’m hoping to buy 150+ diapers and like 770 wipes (10 refill packs) so I’m good to go for getting a move on potty training. I work for Wal-Mart, but I’d ratherbuy bulk to try to get a reduced rate.
I checked 1800diapers.com. They have a box of 150 Pampers Cruisers (the only kind that I’ve had any luck with) for $46.49 and 770 wipes for $24.99. If you order over $50, then UPS shipping is free. Good deal? What do ya’ll think?
