What Do You Use To Get Rid Of Diaper Rash?
He has been rash free until recently- he is now 13 months old and for some reason he has a rash. I change him regularly, I put desitin on him yesterday(when I saw he was just a lil pink) and today it’s so raw…it’s worse than before! Has your baby had a rxn to desitin? Any advice on if a particular bath time soak helps? And to those that will say….”Ask your DR!!!”—-I plan on it, tomorrow morning when they open. So there! =)

Hello Mommy!
I used DiproTex &
“A & D Ointment” on both my kids.
I think the “A&D” works best.
It happens… During the rash be dure to
Get the diaper off as soon as he wets..
gently wipe him clean…gently pat him dry.
apply the a&d…
Even when his rash is gone…
You can prevent it by applying after
his bath and in
between diaper changes.
I hope your baby’s rash gets better..
I still use good ol fashion baby powder. My son had one recently too and I was using the creams and it got worse. Then I switched back to baby powder and its gone now.
Anytime my twins get a diaper rash we use Boudreaux’s Butt Paste. It is a little higher than the others but well worth it. Will clear it up almost immediately.
Mylanta, crazy as it sounds, use a cotton ball and apply sparingly….. unless it’s a yeast infection, then you’ll need Nystantin, a miracle cream for bacterial skin infections
It may not be plain old diaper rash, it may be a yeast rash and in that case you should put some monistat on it after each diaper change or lotramine AF. It wouldn’t hurt to mix desitin and lotramine AF.
Ok, don’t be grossed out by this but if you’re breastfeeding, try breast milk. It works so well!
Ask your Doctor for a prescription of Vusion, sounds like he is getting a mix of a yeast infection and a diaper rash, it happens, my little boy got it and vusion took it away, also let him soak in a plain bath with no soap, and afterwards put some BALMEX with a little corn starch it really works I promise.
The best diaper rash ointment is the one that you get at a drugstore that is a compounding pharmacy. The pharmacist can blend ointments and they work together very well.. Sometimes they call it “Butt Paste”. Ask around, it is worth it.
Sensi~Care is the best I would say. My daughter had a diaper rash coming home from daycare. I put it on her that night when I gave her a bathe and the diaper rash was gone the next morning. One of the nurse’s at the hospital gave it to me. It does the job.
Use aveeno baby for diaper rash it works for my baby brother. And if that doesn’t work go see a pediatrician they usually prescribe one that will work.
I like the Aveeno bath soaks, they are the oatmeal kind and help a lot, also I have noticed that usually when the bum is way sore then it may be a yeast infection or something like that and the dr has to give a rx to fix it.
Just hang in there, let him be naked as much as you can, the air helps, the destin is usually the best with the butt paste and the balmex and the a & d too.
Hope this helps and he gets better soon, my 10 month old daughter has a sore bum right now and its MISERABLE!!
Best thing for my son’s rash is fresh air. I put him on a blanket on the floor with a bare bum for as long as he is happy at least once a day…doesn’t take long for the rash to disappear.
What worked for me was getting DrugMart brand Zinc diaper rash cream and before he went to bed I used as much as possable and created a thick layer all over him LIKE EVERYWHERE!!! I put his diaper on and the next morning its like near gone.
ok here is what has worked for myself, my nephew, and my niece.
use over the counter lotrimin (yes the jock itch cream)
diaper rash is an over growth of yeast and bacteria.
it works over night.. i swear
dont use baby powder… it is not good for babies, or even toddlers to breath in. esp if he/she has asthma. (per my dr)
It may be a yeast infection and not a diaper rash and your dr will be able to tell you for sure. He/she will prescribe nystatin in that case and it should clear up rather quickly. If it has red bumps it is a yeast infection and that may be why the Desitin did not help. Just try to keep him as dry as possible throughout the night, cover him with powder and change him as soon as he needs changed. Also let him air dry before putting the next diaper on him.
Good luck, glad you are seeing the dr tomorrow.
Actually, just today I had to pick up stuff for my son! It’s called Boudreaux’s Butt Paste, and you can get it at a regular drugstore. I’ve used it only twice tonight, so I can’t report on any changes/improvements.
Good luck!
when you change the diaper every time… put baby powder on him
ask your doctor for nystan its realy good will clear up straigth away if not forget baby wipes warn water and soft cloth
My son (14 months) seems to break out worse from the diaper ointments so instead when he gets diaper rash (especially from teething) my Dr. recommended instead of baby wipes I use a washcloth and water, let him air dry for 5-10 mins., then apply a thick coating of shortening. Usually by the next day he is healed up. For the rest of the time I use baby powder and it seems to help prevent getting diaper rash as often.
Balmax
Desitin, butt paste, and A&D ointment.
My son is alergic to what is used to make desitin white so i have to use A&D…also an unexplained diaper rash that wont go away can be a sign of a yeast infection
try some neosporin, worked for my babe
use bagbalm. you can get this at any drug store .no precription needed.
I used Destin and it worked great… And try A&D Ointment
I use balmex. Now this may sound strange, but my babysitter uses plain yogurt on her kids. It definitely works, I don’t know where she got the idea but it works for her and some of the kids she watches.
It’s possibly a yeast infection, that usually looks like little red bumps…
They have a prescription specifically made for babies with yeast infections now, but it’s really just a “baby” version of Lotrimin AF, which you can buy over the counter as an athlete’s foot cream.
My oldest son’s Dr. told me to use the Lotrimin AF (which you can also get in store brand) 12 years ago, and it also worked 4 1/2 years ago for my other son.
You just clean the area with water and apply a small amount twice a day. It usually worked in less than 24 hours, way better than any diaper rash ointment ever did!
Put Desitin on him and then baby powder or cornstarch on top. Also if you feel comfortable, let him run around without a diaper on. The air hitting his diaper rash will help!
My son had the same problem. My doctor said to have him go without a diaper if possible for as long as possible. We put him in a pack and play with towels, but he still peed in it. Oh well! If it’s not too hot, take him outside naked if you can. (Sunscreen please!) He can wear a hat, shirt, shoes.
Soak-box of baking soda and several inches of water for 15-20 minutes.
That really helped and now we jsut use Desitin or A&D with every change because we know he has a sensitive tushy!
Butt Paste contains borax or some sort of acid, which is very harmful to babies if swallowed, so be careful with that brand.
Aveeno is a waste of money as Baking soda can work as well for 1/4 the price.
My toddler had such bad diaper rash, that her skin was sloughing off and her butt was bloody. The doctor told me to use Boudreaux’s Butt Paste, it has a pleasant odor, the rash was gone the next day. You wouldn’t even know that she had a rash. Also, it sounds like a pain, but rinse the wet wipes off in warm water before you wipe with them.
Aveeno diaper rash cream is awesome! I love all the Aveeno stuff! It could be yeast though, like others have said
