Aveeno diaper rash cream is awesome! I love all the Aveeno stuff! It could be yeast though, like others have said

My toddler had such bad diaper rash, that her skin was sloughing off and her butt was bloody. The doctor told me to use Boudreaux's Butt Paste, it has a pleasant odor, the rash was gone the next day. You wouldn't even know that she had a rash. Also, it sounds like a pain, but rinse the wet wipes off in warm water before you wipe with them.

My son had the same problem. My doctor said to have him go without a diaper if possible for as long as possible. We put him in a pack and play with towels, but he still peed in it. Oh well! If it's not too hot, take him outside naked if you can. (Sunscreen please!) He can wear a hat, shirt, shoes.
Soak-box of baking soda and several inches of water for 15-20 minutes.
That really helped and now we jsut use Desitin or A&D with every change because we know he has a sensitive tushy!
Butt Paste contains borax or some sort of acid, which is very harmful to babies if swallowed, so be careful with that brand.
Aveeno is a waste of money as Baking soda can work as well for 1/4 the price.

Put Desitin on him and then baby powder or cornstarch on top. Also if you feel comfortable, let him run around without a diaper on. The air hitting his diaper rash will help!

It's possibly a yeast infection, that usually looks like little red bumps...
They have a prescription specifically made for babies with yeast infections now, but it's really just a "baby" version of Lotrimin AF, which you can buy over the counter as an athlete's foot cream.
My oldest son's Dr. told me to use the Lotrimin AF (which you can also get in store brand) 12 years ago, and it also worked 4 1/2 years ago for my other son.
You just clean the area with water and apply a small amount twice a day. It usually worked in less than 24 hours, way better than any diaper rash ointment ever did!

I use balmex. Now this may sound strange, but my babysitter uses plain yogurt on her kids. It definitely works, I don't know where she got the idea but it works for her and some of the kids she watches.
