My newborn necessities include
onesies (lots of them)
sleepers (with feet)
hats
diapers
wipes
wash cloths
a towel
receiving blankets
car seat
crib
swing
I have a 3 week old and so far that’s really all we use.
I love Pampers Swaddlers. I used them with my first and barely had any leaks. I tried Huggies and I would have to change his whole outfit when he pooped because they leaked every time. When he got older we started using Parents Choice and those have been great. But for my newborn I stick with Pampers Swaddlers.
lots of sleepers, onsies, wash clothes. as for brand names. you can try out different brands to see which works better for your baby. i recommend huggies diapers and wipes (i found pampers diapers leaked). as for formula, ‘nestly good start’ is my preference. i’ve tried enfamil but found it made my baby very fussy and gassy. when i switched, she was a lot better. baby swings work wonders when nothing else seems to soothe baby! brand names are all a matter of personal choice. what works best for one baby may not be the case for another as every baby is different.. good luck!
sleepers, sleepers and more sleepers! all the little outfits are cute but not practical for a newborn!! and don’t forget the onsies for under the sleepers.
my favorite diapers are parents choice (walmart brand), luvs and huggies pure and natural.
wipes…my fav…parents choice sensitive
most nb’s love swings
as far as formula, i use earths best organic soy…it took awhile to find one that didn’t cause spit-up and gas.
enjoy your little peanut!
love love and more love
ddont buy formula!! all a baby needs is a wrap/sling love and breastmilk
Essentials:
- Bathtub with or without sling. (I loved the sling) Now that my baby girl is 2 months old, we have a deep bathtub for her because she HATES being naked and cold and the water sits more chest level, so you may want to find a deep tub that has an attachable sling.
- A swing or a bouncy chair. Something you can put baby in rather than always holding/carrying him/her. If you’re tight on money, buy both of them and see which one baby prefers and then return the other.
- Towels, washcloths, I love the johnson baby bath wash and lotion the calming one. Ugh smells so good!, diaper bag, wipe holder for the bag, a night light, a good sturdy pillow for breastfeeding, lots of receiving blankets ( I find that which ever breast she’s not feeding on, leaks like crazy and I just put a receiving blanket under that breast to catch the milk, breastpads don’t work as it leaks like crazy!), bibs, change pad (I just threw that on the dresser works perfectly!) diaper stacker, hangers, booties, socks, sleepers, onesies, I liked the nightgowns for nb’s, blankets….
I use huggies diapers although at the beginning I used pampers because that’s what the hospital supplied, but switched because to me I found huggies softer. For wipes I use pampers. For some reason she’s allergic to the huggies wipes. :S
Gear:
- Car Seat
- Bunting bag (if you live where I do, where it gets to be =50 in winter, they’re absolutely great!)
- Head support thingy for car seat
- Stroller ( I haven’t used my stroller… well I lie, I used it three times, but then it got to cold to go anywhere with her)
- Bassinet (GREAT AND DIDN’T GO TO WASTE!)
I used Enfamil because that’s what was supplied in hospital. Ask the nurse for a 4pk of the ready made formula to take home with you as well as take all the diapers they supply you and snaffu some receiving blankets! They’re thicker than the ones iin storebut not to thick.
I didn’t breastfeed in hospital, I don’t know if it was because I was tired and not comfortable because it wasn’t my own comfort settings, but straight when we got home it was only boob and she got it right away. So, if you dont’ get it in hospital don’t give up, try when you get home.
First month is crazy! What I did was set up a “get together” at my aunts so that everyone could see her at once. This was nice because I didn’t have people coming and going from my place. Gave us all a chance to relax and recuperate
Have a lot of ready made food, like veggies and dip or sandwhich meat for lunches.
Don’t forget to leave a slot of time to yourself, whether it’s for getting out of the house for a bit, or sleeping, or taking an extra long shower… you’ll need it.
Also, I found that I was stuck in the house a lot! And making outtings to my in-laws for dinner or my parents was awesome. I still felt comfortable enough to breastfeed her in front of them and it was good company. So make sure you get out!!!
Best of luck to you!!!
ETA – in regards to buying formula, I went on Nestle.com and Enfamil.com and got free formula sent to me.
