What Is In Each Of The Free Diaper Bags That You Get At The Hospital?

I have gotten information from Similac, Enfamil, and Good Start about free diaper bags. It appears that they all offer a free diaper bag at the hosptial when you deliver your baby. I am curious what is in each of them, and if you have to choose one of them, or if the hospital will give you all of them. I have no idea what formula to go with and am happy to receive any and all samples, coupons, etc. that I can get my hands on.

A bunch of crap, coupons, advertisements for picture studios and book clubs and mothers rings and all that jazz, sometimes samples of lotion, soap, diapers, formula, diaper rash ointment, lanolin, breast pads, rice cereal… etc. If you have to choose amongst the 3 brands, I highly recommend Good Start (the one in the light purple can is the most inexpensive), it does tend to be gentler on baby’s stomach and it doesn’t seem to foam up as much as the other kinds, which makes for less gas. However, if your baby is anything like my daughter was… she was allergic to all standard formula at first, so she had to be on a specialized formula Similac makes one called Allimentium and Enfamil makes one called Nutramigen, they’re crazy expensive. But as I said, I would recommend starting out with Good Start (besides, they give the best vender’s checks).
as far as i can remember there were a bunch of coupons for various things, i think some sample formula and some information booklets. i don’t remember what else if anything. the hospital i was at, they just brought me one i think it was similac. i didn’t get a choice. i’m sure you could get an extra one at your pedi’s office, too. if you go to each brand of formula website and sign up on their site, they’ll send you free formula checks that are like various amounts off of your formula purchase. they also send a free can of formula around your baby’s due date. we got a bunch of small cans from our child pedi… she asked if we wanted some samples and gave us a small sackful of formulas a couple diff times. that will save you some $, too, if yours doesn’t offer you any, ask if they have some available to give away. i’m sure they would. after getting a bunch of free formula, we pretty much just stuck w/ the store brand at walmart (parents choice w/ iron, dha & ara) bc all baby formula have to meet a government standard so they are all good, just be sure to get one w/ iron in it & even better if it has dha and ara also. good luck
i got 2 diaper bags at the hospital. i know they had formula and coupons in them but i cant remember what else.
There is a can of formula in the diapers bags that u get from the hospital.Whatever formula your baby is on determines what bag u will get.
The bags are actually pretty fun to go through even though I didn’t end up using most of the stuff in the bag because I chose to breastfeed. the bags are mainly designed to encourage formula feeding. They will give you formula samples and coupons for formulas. Some will even have pre-made bottles. Coupons, feeding charts, some samples of bath products. The diaper bags are pretty cheap feeling too. Either way, it is nice to have something to look through after birth.
I recieved the Enfamil bag from the hospital. It had a guide of tips on feeding and burping, plus the different formuls that Enfamil makes. It had a free 4 pack of 4 ounce cans of Ready to Use Enfamila Lipil with Iron.My son is a month old and takes very well to the formula. Before he was born, I signed up to Enfamil’s website and recieved lots of free formula in the mail, plus retail coupons, some $1.00, some $5.00 and some $7.00 ones. I am up to 6 free 129 ounce cans of the powder formula, which make 166 four ounce bottles. My son just statred taking to the powdered, but he can only take it with Brita water or boiled water. I tried mixing it with bottled water and it did not sit well with him… Plus the powdered is great for on the go feedings. You do not need a bottle bag or hot water to heat up the bottle. Go to http://www.enfamil.com and sign up for Enfamil beginings. They really helped me, plus the free formula and coupons really help with the money situation!
It all depends on the hospital and which company’s formula they prefer to recommend.
Generally there are coupons for all kinds of baby things and some sample sizes of the typical products that you would purchase to use with your baby.
It sort of strikes me funny that they put disposable diaper samples in the same bag with the diaper rash cream. If you use cloth diapers you won’t have as much of an occurance of diaper rash as you do with disposable diapers.
With cloth you put a nice soft, comfortable diaper against your baby’s skin instead of plastic, paper and chemicals that can cause rashes and who knows what else.
Disposable diapers are hot, sticky and uncomfortable even when dry, I know because I’m incontinent and I have to wear a diaper 24 / 7 and I used to wear disposables at first, I now use cloth unless I’m traveling.
I think every parent should be made to wear disposable diapers for 2 weeks and then wear cloth diapers for two weeks just to see what their baby is feeling. I think most in time would use cloth after that. After all it’s the baby’s health and comfort we are talking about, not our convenience.

They are full of samples of diaper creams, and ads for free portraits at Sears and other ads about birth announcements, etc…
I breastfed both my kids but I still got a bag with my first born and two bags with my second. They are good quality bags. For my first born it was a green bag with bunnies all over it, luckily for my second born they started making them just black. Much nicer. Get all the bags you can get, but I would still breastfeed. Much healthier and best of all, it is FREE! (Formula is so expensive and who wants to put chemicals into their baby.) That’s my 2 cents. Good Luck with your labor and delivery.
Depends on the hospital, hun……..In my bag there were coupons for formula, sample diapers, small bottles of prepped formula, a baby book and a couple of plastic bottles………
the hospital will start you on the best formula for the baby and the diaper bag will be whatever the hospital is backing. it will have formula and couponsand helpful parenting tips .sometimes a wipe sample and diaper samples
I actually received two bags…the hospital knowing that I was breastfeeding. They both contained sample products such as: diaper rash creme, dreft baby laundry soap sample, Alot of coupons, on the go single packets of Similac Formula that just need water, sample baby wipes from Pampers, and a Similac black pouch for keeping bottles cold with reusable ice packs.
my daughter got three… each one had diapers, (a sample) booklets and coupons, some had a pacifier, and formula samples and coupons for that too… lots of reading materials… lol
then you get diapers, disposable bottles (glass..with nipples) the wipes ,booklets, a nose squeegee, thermometer, a sample bottles of baby soap, lotion, from the hospital…
my daughter said one of the diaper bags she got also had the lotion and baby wash samples in it too…
Lots of coupons for different types of formulas, diaper rash ointments, diapers & other baby items. In mine, there was extra formula, samples of Desitin, baby lotion, shampoo, baby bath bar of soap. Also, things you can fill out for your baby(like magazines, books, etc.) Oh, coupons to get baby’s picture made.
I dont know what state you live in. I am in pennsylvania and with each of my children we only got one form similac. Dont expect to get one from all three at the hospital. What ever kind of formula the hospital has your baby on there will be a sample in the diaper bag. There will be coupons, samples of lotion, diaper rash cream, diaper.
My first was born at home so no diaper bag. Second was born at the hospital and the lactation consultant took out all formula samples and coupons. It included a couple bibs, diapers, wipes, lansinoh cream, body wash, diaper rash cream, magnets, coupons for a museum, other baby item coupons, and a book. I actually loved all the stuff I got, other than the diapers (we don’t use disposables ever). I’m not sure if the LC gave all the coupons and samples to formula feeding moms or what, but the BF initation rate is about 90% here so if she did give them to FF moms, they got a ton of samples! I personally think giving away formula samples is unethical and it raises the cost of formula for those that actually need it, but that is a seperate rant.
you dont get to pick the diaperbag, they give it to you before you go home. you get to keep any diapers that you didnt use while you were in the hospital, and the unused bottles of formula ( i always took a few bottles out of each box to take home to save a little cash.) it has coupons for fast food, a baby changing mat, ice pack, towel, washrag, shampoo, diaper rash ointment….just lots of little goodies. that is how it was for me in glasgow ky.
