a confined area such as a playpen lined in peepee pads or a plastic sheet with a crib sheet over it….sure youll have to wash the sheet after but it keeps the tyke from eating the pads and he gets to have diaper free time. I use to take my son out on the front porch and lay him on a towel when he wasnt so mobile. Sunlight naturally gets rid of diaper rash and he liked a little sun on his bum.
Good question. I think that it’s good to let a baby’s bottom breathe and get a rest from wearing diapers all of the time. I especially thought it was beneficial to my daughter, when she was an infant and had the occassional diaper rash, to sport a bare bottom. But where is it appropriate? Only in the home. If you have the luxury of owning a personal pool, then you can take the baby for a swim with no bottoms. Ofcourse, there is a possibility that he/she may urinate or have a bowel movement. I’ve cleaned up many similar, if not exact, messes.
This is what I use to do, however. I would bathe her. Leave her in the nude. Place huge beach towels all over the living room floor, even stacking a few on top of one another for absorption, just in case she “went”. There were always plenty of space for her to scoot a/o crawl and tons of stuffed animals and toys for her to preoccupy herself with. She would spend hours there. Once she was able to scoot and crawl quickly, I would have to watch her in order to make sure that she stayed in that specific area.
I hope that this has been helpful. It’s the only thing that I was able to do. Whenever there was a mess, I would simply clean it up. It wasn’t fun but it had to be done. Eventually, I got use to it. I knew that it was worth it because my baby didn’t have to be restricted to diapers and clothing all of the time. She really enjoyed it. I have a new baby on the way and I’ll do the same with her.
After you give him a bath his bladder will most likely be pretty empty (warm water will do that), that would be the best time. Try putting a sheet down, or you can buy sheets for beds that are waterproof. Alot of elderly people use them, they are big enough to lay on the floor and give your little guy plenty of room to play.
With a boy, you’re always taking a risk. Its just baby pee. No real odor or anything. If he’s just looking for tummy time, just place a few towels down on the floor or a blanket that can be easily washed. If hes crawling or walking just watch and clean up as soon as he goes…no biggie. Hope it helps!
When my nephew was a baby he had terrible excema…we would lay him in the sun on a large towel folded in half and put one of his socks over his “stuff” then we he did pee it was not all over the place, and we just put on a new sock. Hope it works for you.
Put on an oversized t-shirt and a hat and play in the yard. The shirt should be big enough to shade his penis to prevent sunburn. Even so don’t stay out too long, and mornings are best.
This is what I did with my son and it worked great. Take the plastic mat from your diaper changing station and line it with lap pads. You can get them at Target. They come in packs of three and are soft but absorbent and water proof. Place him on the lap pads on his stomach. That way if he pees he pees into the lap pads! Works great!
I have often asked this myself, and the only thing I have come up with is let him go Au nauturale outside!!
