They all suck! Take them both back, and get a tall stainless steel step trash can, like from the Container Store or Bed Bath Beyond. Same size as you would use in kitchen, but not the largest one. Take the trash out every couple of days and you should have minimal smell issues. All the plastic diaper pails start to reek terribly after a couple of months. And the stainless steel step can is so easy to use, just put it right next to the changing table. Read all the reviews of different diaper pails on babiesrus.com, and you will read so much negative stuff about all of them. My best friend recommending the steel can was the best baby tip I got.
I cannot stand the Diaper Genie 2, we get some really poopy diapers and you have to squeeze them through this – well, it’s basically a wringer. It’s not a good combination – poop often gets squished out of the diaper and it’s really pretty gross. I have never used the Clean Air, but I have a Diaper Champ as well as the Diaper Genie and I love the Diaper Champ! It takes regular 13 gallon trash bags, holds the smell in well and is well designed.
I use the Diaper genie II and it works very well. The cons are it doesnt smell at all, you can do it with one hand, and it is very easy to use. The con is you have to keep buying the refill for it which costs around $6. I use one of those refills a week. I dont know about the other diaper pail. Sorry.
I’ll be honest… the best advice I ever got was to find a diaper pail that takes regular everyday plastic bags. That way you aren’t paying the extra money for the refills that are required for the Diaper Genie, etc. I got a basic one at Walmart and loved it! It was easy to use and kept the odor down too!
I use the Diaper Genie II. I love it. I have never used another one but I think this one is great. You just open the lid and push the diaper in, no knobs to turn. And when the pail is full you just open it and tie it off ands start over. One refill lasts about a month or so for us (5-7 Diapers a day average).
I totally agree with Christina!! Don’t waste the money on crap! (literally) You will throw the thing across the street! Use the old grocery bags and every time you get a poo diaper.. put it in the bag and put it in the garage until the bag is half full.. Or just use one bag for each diaper. I do the garage thingy.. I’ll get 3-4 diapers in there before I take it to the garbage can..
